It's Electric

Uncle (Electrician)Jim came from Indiana to re-wire our house. Apparently "the moron" (as Dad affectionately called the previous electrician/handyman) took a 220, ran a 110 off of it for an outlet and split it on two breakers. Moron also used a ground wire as a hot lead. Oh what will we discover tomorrow?!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH (in honor of Talk Like a Pirate day)

This happened last Monday, but is too funny to not post. Here is the email my dad received from me at approximately 9:15 am.

Hey Dad,

I am hoping you can help us. This morning (5:30) the security alarm started chirping. We tried putting in the one code we have and nothing worked. (So, of course we tried to go back to bed with the fan on high and the door closed :) This morning, we walked around the house trying to pinpoint the sound. We've completely disconnected the system from the power source. Detached the box from the wall along with the doorbell box. Detached the smoke detectors, motion detector and the alarm on the back door. There is STILL a chirp from somewhere in the kitchen area. It sounds like it is rotating around the room, really. I am not sure if we have gone nuts by now, but it sure seems like it. Neither of us can find anything above or in the cabinets (or below for that matter). I even went down into the basement to see if it was something in there. It chirps every 30 seconds to a minute!

If you can think of anything, PLEASE let me know!

The following email was sent about 7 minutes later:

Ok, you can now start laughing hysterically at your daughter and son-in-law. I found the source. Could it possibly be the CO detector that we have next to the mixer by the cabinets in the kitchen? Why yes!! (And has this happened before? Why yes...)

We have a GARAGE!!!

Now for the rest of it--we are going to have a 4" fiberglass enmeshed pad poured for the floor, two garage doors put on, hemlock siding, and a few windows!! We will be enjoying a covered space soon!
