Trying to beat the rain...

The porch is as scraped as it is going to be. Unfortunately, the weather forecast is predicting rain on and off, so we hurried yesterday and got a coat on before the pitter-patter of rain drops. Today, not so much. While Kevin was out getting the primer, the sky opened up and loud claps of thunder followed. Oh, well. A lazy Saturday with a party tonight...sounds good to me :)

And the walls were BLOWN OFF...

...well, not really, but it would have been cool!

Today we decided that things might move a touch faster if we took the nicely hinged frames (which function as walls when the screens are attached) off. So, after some hammering and crow-barring, they came off. The porch now functions as a deck--kind of.

Re-vamping the porch

Yesterday was such a nice day, I took advantage of that and worked on scraping the porch floor. As I sat cross-legged, listening to whatever tune our computer selected, I was graced by the subtle sweetness of lilac. I thought about what this porch has witnessed and what it will. What coat of paint will be added on top of the already dark green, light green and beige? White, red, yellow, green, blue...what to do, what to do.

When Kevin came home, he took out the rest of the existing screens (not quite in the same style Jon did). Now, our porch is waiting to be finished scraped and then primed. If only the weather and jobs didn't get in the way...

No explanation needed...

Enough with the inside...how about the outside

This weekend was a very productive weekend of work. Although some may not recognize it, gigantic progress has been made. We have the exposed wall beams leveled, sheet rock is going up, the walls are insulated. The bathroom is even starting to look like a real room Yeah....progress is a great thing.

Now onto the outside. There have not been many pictures from the outside. So here it is....,

The long awaited clothesline.

We have been wanting a clothesline at everyplace we have lived. So, as soon as the weather became nice enough, Kevin constructed a wonderful clothesline!

And to show how well it works...

New stove :)

Signs that it is time to replace the circa 1980 oven/microwave:
1) need to hold "start" while heating food in the microwave
2) no simmer on the range
3) OH YEAH, and flames burning from the element coil in the oven

(who fits better? :)

Now for a little color...

The front room is "chocolate brown"

and the living room is "pumpkin spice."

DESTRUCTION....HA HA HA (evil tone)

First things first!

The main bathroom ceiling needs to be a few feet taller. It is only about 6' so to accommodate for taller friends and family, we need to raise the ceiling.

We signed on the house today!

Wish List

Awhile back, we started (OK, I) started a folder of "wish lists" --things that would be cool in our house. Of course it is all mismatched and lacks some kind of harmonious thread, but they are all cool ideas. Well, the folder wasn't cuttin' it any more and we have now moved on to a sketchbook. Here are some snip-its of thoughts:

plate racks in the kitchen
"Prozac in a Paint Can"
pegs...everywhere!
lahardware.com
air movement indicator (zerotoys.com)

And I frequent these sites for ideas too:

www.shojidecor.com
www.tinceilingdepot.com
www.eartheasy.com
www.apartmenttherapy.com

And, of course, Ikea for color and inspiration!

The Offer

Thinking of emptying one's savings on something that becomes the environment of each other's lives, the building place of memories, is kind of scary. It started with thoughts on napkins and progressed to "Oh, so I was thinking we could do something like this..." or "Practice saying, 'Our house.'" Our hearts were set and we wanted this house. After signing legal jargon that makes only sense to those who type it, we started the next step...three months of hurry up and wait.
